Baluchari SariĀ is a type ofĀ saree, a garment worn by women in BangladeshĀ and INDIANĀ States of West Bengal. Firstly, This particular type of saree originated in West Bengal and is known for depictions of mythological scenes on the PalluĀ of the saree.
It used to be produced in Murshidabad but presently Bishnupur. In addition, its surrounding areas of West Bengal are the only place where authentic Baluchari saree's are produced.
Moreover, it takes approximately one week to produce one such saree. In 2011, the Baluchari Saree was granted the status of Geographical IndicationĀ for West Bengal in INDIA.
