In the Bangladesh and eastern regions of India, the embroidery craft known as "Kantha" (also spelled kanta or qanta) creates this beautiful saree.

In Odisha,

People hand-stitch old sarees on top of each other to create a thin cushion. They commonly use this cushion on a bed or instead of a cushion.

Nowadays, the "kantha stitch" embroidery becomes popular on garments like sarees, kurtas, churidars, and many others because of its handmade appeal and aesthetic value. Jamdani, on the other hand, is a fine cloth with geometric or floral designs.

Due to this superfine cloth, handloom weaving had become a fine art in the 15th and 16th centuries. In the 17th century, people began using the Jamdani fabric for dresses. Today, weavers in the concentrated areas of Burdwan and Nadia districts in West Bengal produce Jamdani fabrics on frame looms.

It is believed that the word ‘Jamdani’ derived from the Persian word ‘Jama’ meaning cloth and ‘Dana’ meaning buti or diapering. Jamdani weaving flourished under Mughal Emperors who appreciated the excellence of this Jamdani weaving.
